प्रतिदान
 चिड़िया ने
 अपनी चोंच में
 जितना समाया
 उतना पिया
 उतना ही लिया,
 सागर में जल
 खेतों में दाना
 बहुत था!
 चिड़िया ने 
 घोंसला बनाया इतना
 जिसमें समां जाए 
 जीवन अपना
 संसार बहुत बड़ा था !
 चिड़िया ने रोज 
 एक गीत गया
 ऐसा जो 
 धरती और आकाश
 सब में समाया 
 चिड़िया ने सदा सिखाया 
 एक लेना
 देना सवाया !

Giving
 The bird took
 Only as much as its beak
 Could hold;
 It swallowed only
 As much as it could drink.
 Thus the grain in the field,
 The water in the sea,
 Remained enough and plenty.
 The bird made its nest
 Only as big
 As its own body.
 The world remained so big
 And wide.
 The bird sang a song
 Each day
 A song that
 Filled the earth
 And the sky.
 The bird taught us;
 Take less
 And give plenty.
