The Milky Sea [The Kșira-sāgara] among all the seas

A heroic death ( Vira marana) among the different deaths A fish-pearl among all the pearls –

    Are regarded excellent,

    Exactly so

The virtue among the virtues is gratitude',

On beholding the sacred pitcher adorned

    With such gratitude

    A highly valuable pearl-gem

Is bestowed to the sacred pitcher,

By the one ‘Huge fish”, being pleased at it.

“Let this insignificant service be accepted, O Lord ! - Having uttered so, the fish vanishes into the

water. A special characteristic of this pearl is that

The gentleman who obtains this one,

    Can get a smooth way

    Through the very deep waters,

And this is what happens at once !

    After crossing without effort

    The swirling current in spate,

The sacred pitcher, with a faint smile,

    Makes the eminent trader remember,

Along with his family a pithy saying, that,

‘Even a pearl is obtained without asking,

While no alms reach a begging bowl

And, O the eminent trader !

This reward is the outcome Of the  renunciation of passions and observance of austerities. By the self-confidence of the sacred pitcher -
