औषध-सेवन करने वाला रोगी
जिसकी उपास्य देवता नीरोगता है,
भोगी हो नहीं सकता वह,
भोग ही तो रोग है।
और...सुनो!
यह औषध का नहीं,
सही निदान का चमत्कार है,
औषध-सेवन का फल तो
रोग का शोधन है-नीरोगता
अनमोल सो...धन है।”
और क्या कहा कुम्भ ने
सो..सुनो!
‘‘वैसे
आभरण-आभूषणों की बात दूर रहे,
वृद्धावस्था में ढाका-मलमल भी
भार लगती है
जब कि
बाल हो या युवा
प्रौढ़ हो या वृद्ध
वनवासी हो या भवनवासी
वैराग्य की दशा में
स्वागत-आभार भी
भार लगता है।”
सन्तों की ये पंक्तियाँ भी
अप्रासंगिक नहीं हैं :
‘‘गगन का प्यार कभी
धरा से हो नहीं सकता
मदन का प्यार कभी
जरा से हो नहीं सकता,
The patient, who takes the medicine,
Whose adorable deity is true healthiness,
Can never be a sensualist
Sensual enjoyments are, really, the diseases.
And...hark !
It is a marvel of correct diagnosis
And not that of the medicine itself,
The purgation of the disease
Is the result of taking the medicine –
Perfect health is really an invaluable wealth”.
What else is added by the pitcher -
Listen ...to it!
“ In that way
Leave aside the mention of adornments and ornaments, Even the fine thin muslin of Dhaka
Seems to be a burden in old age,
While,
Whether the one is a boy or a young man
A mature person or an old man
Whether the one inhabits a forest or a palace
In the state of all worldly detachments
Even the reception and obligation
Appears to be a burden.”
These lines too by the saints
Aren't irrelevant :
“ There can be no love
Of the Sky with the Earth
The Cupid's love can never
Condescend to the old age;
