वह रोग कहाँ
वह वदन कहाँ
और वह
आग का सदन कहाँ ?
जो,
इन कानों ने, आँखों ने
और हाथों ने
सुने, देखे, छुए थे स्वप्न में ?
अक्षरशः स्वप्न असत्य निकला,
स्वप्न का घातक फल टला।
“कुम्भ की कुशलता सो अपनी कुशलता”
यूँ कहता हुआ कुम्भकार
सोल्लास स्वागत करता है अवा का,
और
रेतिल राख की राशि को,
जो अवा की छाती पर थी
हाथों में फावड़ा ले, हटाता है।
ज्यों-ज्यों राख हटती जाती,
त्यों कुम्भकार का कुतूहल
बढ़ता जाता है, कि
कब दिखे वह कुशल कुम्भ…
लो, अब दिखा!
राख का रंग कुम्भ का अंग
दोनों एक-दोनों संग
सही पहचान नहीं पातीं आँखें ये
अनल से जल-जल कर
काली रात-सी कुम्भ की काया बनी है।
Where is that ailment
Where is that face
And where is
That mansion of flames ?
Which
These ears, these eyes
And these hands
Had heard, seen and touched in dreams ? The dream comes out untrue in the real sense of the word, The deadly result of the dream passes away.

The hue of the ashes, the limb of the pitcher -
Both of them as one, are together, These eyes are unable to recognize truly – After being burnt into the flames gradually, The body of the pitcher has assumed its shape As that of a dark night.
