‘अकीर्ति का कारण कदाग्रह है'
कदाग्रही को मिलता आया है
चिर से कारागृह वह !
कठोर कर्कश कर्ण-कटु
शब्दों की मार सुन कर
दशों-दिशाएँ बधिर हो गईं,
नभ-मण्डल ही निस्तेज हुआ
फैले बादल-दलों में डूब-सा गया
अवगाह-प्रदाता आवगाहित-सा हो गया!
और,
प्रभाकर का प्रभा-मण्डल भी
कुछ-कुछ निष्प्रभ हुआ कहता है,
कि
‘अरे ठगो, औरों को ठग कर
ठहाका लेने वालो!
अरे, खण्डित जीवन जीने वालो,
पाखण्ड-पक्ष ले उड़ने वालो!
यह रहस्य की बात समझने में
अभी समय लगेगा तुम्हें!
गन्दा नहीं
बन्दा ही भयभीत होता है
विषम-विघन संसार से-
और,
अन्धा नहीं,
आँख-वाला ही भयभीत होता है
परम-सघन अन्धकार से।

Othou the swindlers, having cheated others,
O thou the enjoyers of the peals of laughter,
O thou the seekers of a fragmented life,
O thou the high-soarers with the wings of hypocrisy ! You will take time
In grasping this point of mystery !
Not a filthy one
But a devotee is afraid of
The odd and the worthless world -
And,
Not the blind,
But the one having eyes indeed, is frightened
By the immensely dense darkness.
