मोक्ष का धाम है।”
यह सुन कर तुरन्त!
धन्य हो! धन्य हो!
कह उठ कंटक पुनः।
‘‘आज इसने
सही साहित्य-छाँव में
अपने आपको पाया है
झिल-मिल झिल-मिल
मुक्ता-मोती-सी लगती हैं
आपके मुख से निकलती
शब्द-पंक्तियाँ ये।
लक्षणा का उपयोग-प्रयोग
विलक्षण है यह,
बहुतों से सुना, पर
बहुत कम सुनने को मिला यह।
और
व्यंजना भी आपकी निरंजना-सी लगती है
विविध व्यंजन विस्मृत होते हैं
यदि सुविधा हो,
बड़ी कृपा होगी,
उदार बन कर
अभिधा की विधा भी सुधारूँ-
सुनाओ...तो...सुनूँ... स्वामिन्!
‘साहित्य' इस शब्द पर हो तो
फिर कहना ही क्या,
सर्वोत्तम होगा सम-सामयिक!'”
शिल्पी के शिल्पक-साँचे में
साहित्य शब्द ढलता-सा!

On hearing this, at once !
Well ! well indeed !
Exclaimed the thorn again.
“Today, it [ the thorn] has
Found itself
Under the true shade of literature,
These rows of words
Emerging from your mouth
Appear like pearls,
Having a glimmering lustre,
The usage and application
Of this suggestive metaphor is uncommon
I heard from many persons, but
It came rarely as such to my hearing.
And
Your subtle expression too, seems to be faultless,
The different tasteful eatables get into oblivion.
If it's convenient,
It will be so kind of you-
By becoming large-hearted,
Let me amend my style of literal expression-
Kindly relate... so that...I may hear, my Lord!
If it is related to the word ‘Literature
Then, it is so good, -
The contemporary shall be the best!”
The word Sahitya [Literature] looked as
if being cast
Into the skilful mould of the Artisan !
