कुम्भ का स्वागत करना है उसे
बाल-भानु की भास्वर आभा
निरन्तर उठती चंचल लहरों में
उलझती हुई-सी लगती है
कि
गुलाबी साड़ी पहने
मदवती अबलाएँ-सी
स्नान करती-करती
लज्जावश सकुचा रही है।
पूरा वातावरण ही
धर्मानुराग से भर उठा है
और
निकट-सन्निकट आ ही गया
उत्कण्ठित नदी-तट।
सर्व-प्रथम चाव से
तट का स्वागत स्वीकारते हुए
कुम्भ ने तट का चुम्बन लिया।
तट में झाग का जाग है
जिसकी धवलिम जाग में
अरुण की आभा का मिश्रण है,
सो...ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है कि
तट स्वयं अपने करों में
गुलाब का हार ले कर
स्वागत में खड़ा हुआ है।
नदी से बाहर निकल आये सब
प्रसन्नता की श्वास स्वीकारते।
धरती की दुर्लभ धूल का
परस किया सब की पगतलियों ने
The reception of the Sacred Pitcher has to be done by it, The radiant brilliance of the rising sun
Seems to be constantly entangled
With the lively waves heaving incessantly
As if
While taking a bath
Out of shyness, it has been shrinking
Like arrogant ladies
Wrapped into rosy Sādis.
The surroundings all around
Get filled with religious fervour,
And
The keenly eager river-bank
Comes Near and nearer, indeed.
At first, affectionately,
Accepting the reception by the river-bank,
The Sacred Pitcher kisses the river-bank.
There is the rise of foam inside the bank,
Within whose white wakefulness
There is the mingling of rosy brightness of the sun,
So, it is appearing, as if,
Having taken in its own hands,
A garland of roses
The river-bank itself is standing in ovation.
All of them, after crossing over the river,
Avow a breath of delight.
The foot-soles of them all
Come in touch with the rare dust of the Earth
