कारण,
कपाल तक पहुँचते ही
मच्छर की प्यास दुगुणी हो उठी,
अंग पूरा तप गया,
कण्ठपूरा सूख गया,
पंख दोनों शिथिल हुए,
और
उत्कण्ठा कहीं उड़ गई।
और मच्छर वह
गुनगुनाहट के मिष
यूँ कहता हुआ उड़ गया, कि
‘‘अरे, धनिकों का धर्म दमदार होता है,
उनकी कृपा कृपणता पर होती है,
उनके मिलन से कुछ मिलता नहीं,
काकतालीय न्याय से
कुछ मिल भी जाय
वह मिलन लवण-मिश्रित होती है।
पल में प्यास दुगुणी हो उठती है।
सर्वप्रथम प्रणिपात के रूप में
उनकी पाद-पूजन की,
फिर
स्वर लहरी के साथ
गुणानुवाद-कीर्तन किया
उनके कर्ण-द्वार पर।
फिर भी मेरी दुर्दशा यह हुई!"
अपने मित्र मच्छर से
सेठ की निन्दा सुन कर
दक्षिणा के रूप में
रक्त-बूंद का प्यासा
Because,
On reaching the skull soon
The thirst of the mosquito gets doubled,
The whole of the body gets fully heated up,
The throat gets thoroughly scorched,
Both the wings become feeble,
And
The eagerness flies away somewhere !
And that mosquito,
On the pretence of humming
Wings himself off while uttering, that
“ Oh, the creed of the rich happens to be forceful,
Their favour falls upon miserliness,
Nothing is attained on visiting them,
If something is obtained at random
According to the maxim of the crow and the
palm – That meeting is found to be mixed with salt
The thirst is just doubled within moments.
At first, in the form of prostration,
I did their feet-adoration,
Then
Eulogized them through musical recitations
Along with harmonious modulations of voice
At the entrance of their ears.
Even then, I have to pass through this sorry plight !”
On hearing a calumny against the eminent trader
By its friend, the mosquito –
Thirsty for a blood-drop,
In the form of honorarium –
