दीपक ले चल सकता है प्रेम से।
मशाल की अपेक्षा
अधिक प्रकाशप्रद है यह।
उष्ण उच्छृखल प्रलय-स्वभावी
मिट्टी का तेल भी वह
दीपक का स्नेह पा कर
ऊर्ध्वगामी बनता है।
पथ-भ्रष्ट एकाकी
अन्धकार से घिरा भयातुर पथिक वह
दीपक को देखते ही अभीत होता है।
सुना है श्मशान में,
भूतों के हाथ में मशाल होता है
जिसे देखते ही
निर्भीक की आँखें भी बन्द होती हैं।
लो, दीपक की लाल लौ
अग्नि-सी लगती, पर अग्नि नहीं
स्व-पर-प्रकाशिनी ज्योति है वह
जो स्पन्दनहीना होती है
जिसे अनिमेष देखने से
साधक का उपयोग वह
नियोग रूप से,
स्थूलता से सूक्ष्मता की ओर
बढ़ता-बढ़ता, शनैः शनैः
व्यग्रता से रहित हो
एकाग्र होता है कुछ ही पलों में।
फिर, फिर क्या-
समग्रता से साक्षात्कार!
दीपक की कई विशेषताएँ हैं
कहाँ तक कहूँ!
It is more illuminating
Than the flambeau,
Hot, rude, devastative –
That kerosene oil too
Moves itself into upliftment
On obtaining the affection of the lamp.
The lonely, strayed wayfarer,
Frightened and surrounded with darkness,
Feels secure at the very sight of a lamp.
It is heard that,
in the cremation ground,
Flambeau is held high into the hands of the ghosts,
At the very sight of which
The eyes of even the undaunted get shut off.
Lo, the reddish glow of the lamp
Seems to be fire-like, though it is not fire,
It is an illumination which enlightens itself and the others Which is without fluctuation,
On seeing which, with unblinking eyes,
The attentive cognition (Upayoga) of the devotee,
In a missionary spirit
Gradually advancing on and on
From the corporeal to the spiritual,
Makes itself concentrated within moments
After being fully free from all restlessness.
Then, then what ?
The subtle realization with entirety!
There are many characteristics of the lamp
How far should I go on describing !
