नीचे पकड़ने हेतु स्थान होता है,
बस, यही मशाल है।
मशाल के मुख पर
माटी मली जाती है।
असंयत होता है, इसलिए।
मशाल से प्रकाश मिलता है।
पर अत्यल्प!
उससे अग्नि की लपटें उठती हैं
राक्षस की लाल रसना-सी
उन लपटों को ज्योति नहीं कह सकते।
मशाल अपव्ययी भी है,
बार-बार तेल डालना पड़ता है
उसके मुख पर,
वह भी मीठा तेल मूल्यवान।
सँ! सँ! कभी-कभी
मनोरंजन के समय पर
मशाल ले चलने वाला पुरुष
अपने मुख में मिट्टी का तेल भर कर
आकाश में ...सुदूर...हाथ उठा कर
मशाल के मुख पर फेंकता है,
...तब
एकाध पल में ही तेल सारा जल कर
काले-काले बादल-से धूम के रूप में
शून्य में लीन-विलीन होता है।
और
मशाल लगता है प्रलय-कालीन
अग्निकुण्ड-सम भयंकर!
थोड़ी-सी असावधानी हो...तो
हा-हाकार, हानि-ही-हानि...।
There is a catch-space at the lower end,
Enough, it is a flambeau (Maśāla),
The soil is rubbed
Upon the face of the flambeau
Because, it is uncontrolled.
Flambeau emits light
But very trivial !
The flames of fire flow from it
Like the reddish tongue of a devil,
Those flames can’t be termed as brilliant light.
The flambeau is extravagant also,
Its mouth has to be filled
With the oil once and again -
The oil, which is edible and dear, indeed!
Yes ! O yes !!, now and then,
When it is time for recreation,
The bearer of the flambeau,
- Having flung his hands...into the...far-off sky
- Having filled his mouth with kerosene oil,
Blows at the face of the flambeau,
Then...
Within moments, the oil being burnt off,
Gets lost and disappears into the empty space
In the form of smoke similar to blackish clouds.
And
The flambeau appears to be
As fierce as the fire-pool at the time of Annihilation
If even a minor negligence takes place...then
It may create an uproar, extensive harm....
