पायस का साहस
इसके आगे नहीं होता देख
यह लेखनी कुछ और कहने को
उद्यम-शीला होती है, कि
‘‘हे स्वर्ण-कलश!
गुणियों का गुणगान करना तो दूर
निर्दोषों को सदोष बता कर
अपने दोषों को छुपाना चाहते हो तुम!
सन्त पर आक्रोश व्यक्त करना,
समता का उपहास करना,
सेठ का अपमान करना...
आदि-आदि ये
अक्षम्य अपराध हैं तुम्हारे,
तथापि उन्हें गौण कर
मात्र तुम्हारे सम्मुख-
माटी की महिमा ही नहीं रखती हूँ,
दो उदाहरण प्रस्तुत कर
तुम्हारा भी कितना मूल्य-महत्त्व है,
बताना चाहती हूँ...लो,
दीपक और मशाल
सामान्य रूप से
दोनों प्रकाश के साधन हैं,
पर,
दोनों के गुण-धर्म भिन्न-भिन्न।
डेढ़-दो हाथ की बाँस ले
उसकी एक छोर पर
एक-के-ऊपर-एक कर
कस-कस कर
चिन्दियाँ बाँधी जाती हैं,
On seeing the courage of the water
Being thwarted, hereafter,
This pen is filled with endeavour
To add something more, that
“O Thou golden pitcher !
To sing songs in praise of the meritorious is something distant, You want to hide your own faults By blaming the blameless ones!
To express anger against a saint,
To make fun of equanimity
To insult the eminent trader…
Etcetera, etcetera; all these
Are your unpardonable offences,
Even then, making all of them secondary,
I not only place before you –
The majesty of the Earth,
By citing two examples
Lo, I wish to tell... How much
value and importance is attached to you also,
A lamp as well as a flambeau, that is, “Maśāla’,
In an ordinary manner,
Both of them are the devices of light,
But,
Both of them are separate in their qualities and Attributes. Having taken a bamboo-piece of one and a half or two cubits
The rags of cloths are fastened Very tightly
Placing the one upon the other
At the one of its ends, -
