मांसल हैं, प्रांजल भी
जिनकी प्रांजलता में
दाता के स्वर्णिम कुण्डल
अपनी प्रतिछवि के बहाने
अपनी तुलना करते हैं कपोलों से-
‘‘हम क्या कम हैं ?
बाल-भानु की भाँति
हमसे आभा फूटती है
गोल भी हैं, सुडौल भी
सुवर्णवाले हैं, सुन्दर हैं
स्वर्णवाले हैं, लोहित नहीं।
फिर भी,
कपोल-कान्ति में, इस कान्ति में
अन्तर क्यों ?
कौन-सी न्यूनता है हममें ?
कौन जानता इस भेद को
किसे पूछे ?
पूछे भी कैसे ?
लो! उलझन में उलझे कुण्डलों को
कपोलों का उद्बोधन :
‘‘तुम्हें देखते ही दर्शकों में
राग जागृत होता है
और
हमें देखते ही सहज
वत्सलभाव उमड़ता है
रागी भी खो जाता है
विरागता में कुछ पल,
हमारे भीतर संगृहीत
वत्सल-भाव वह, ऊपर आ
Are fleshy, as well as refined also,
Into whose refinement
The golden ear-rings of the benefactor,
Under the pretext of their reflected image,
Compare themselves with the cheeks –
“ Are we in any sense inferior ?
We scatter radiance
Like the rising Sun
We are circular and well-shaped too
Are fine-coloured and fascinating
Are purely golden, and not copper-mixed.
Even then,
Between the lustre of the cheeks and that of this splendour, Why such a difference ?
What is the deficiency with us ?
Who is acquainted with this mystery ?
Whom should we ask from ?
How, indeed, should we ask?”
Lo! an awakening address of the cheeks
To the ear-rings, entangled into confusion :
“At the very sight of you
A sense of attachment is awakened in the on lookers And
At the very sight of us
They are filled with a natural feeling of affection,
Even a deeply attached person is lost for some
Moments Into a sense of indifference for the worldly attachment, Gathered within our hearts,
That feeling of deep affection, having risen up,
