चार-पाँच अंजुलि जल-पान हुआ,
कुछ इक्षु-रस का सेवन,
फिर जो कुछ मिलता गया
बस, अविकल चलता गया।
जब चाहे, मन चाहे नहीं
बिना याचना,
बिना कोई संकेत
बस, पेट हो भूखा
फिर कैसा भी हो भोजन
रस-दार हो या रूखा-सूखा
सब समान।
एक बर्तन से दूसरे बर्तन में
भोजन-पान का परिवर्तन होता है
क्या उस समय...कभी...
बर्तन में कोई परिवर्तन आता है?
न ही कोई बर्तन नर्तन करता है
न ही कोई बर्तन रुदन मचाता है
धन्य! धन्य है यह नर
और यह नर-तन
सब तनों में ‘वर'-तन!
बीजारोपण से पूर्व
जल के बहाव से कटी-पिटी
छेद-छिद्र-गर्त वाली धरती में
कूड़ा-कचरा कंकर-पत्थर डाल
उसे समतली बनाता है कृषक।
बस, इसी भाँति,
दाता दान देता जाता

Is taken without interruptions.
Not at whatever time, not at sweet will
Without solicitation,
Without any hint,
Only the stomach ought to be hungry
Whatever then the quality of food -
Juicy or rough and dried up,
There is no difference.
The eatables and the drinkables are transferred
From one vessel into the another
Does any change occur into the vessels
At that time...or afterwards...?
Neither any vessel really takes to dancing
Nor does it start weeping indeed
How fortunate ! What a good luck to this human being And to this human body
Which is the supermost among all the bodies !
Before sowing the seeds
The land, full of holes and pits,
Eroded by the flow of water-currents,
Is levelled by the farmer
By depositing the rubbish, the stone-pieces into it.
Really, in the same way,
The benefactor goes on offering the food...
