जिन आँखों में
अतीत का ओझल जीवन ही नहीं,
आगत जीवन भी स्वप्निल-सा
धुंधला-धुंधला-सा तैरने लगा,
और
भावी, सम्भावित शंकिल-सा
कुल मिला कर सब-कुछ
धूमिल-धूमिल-सा
बोझिल-सा झलकने लगा।
सन्ध्या-वन्दन से निवृत्त हो।
कुम्भकार ने बाहर आ देखा-
प्रभात-कालीन सुनहली धूप दिखी
धरती के गालों पर
जो ठहर न पा रही है,
ऊषा-काल से पूर्व-प्रत्यूष से ही
उसका उर उतावला हो उठा है
आज अवा का अवलोकन
करना है उसे!
कुम्भ ने अग्नि-परीक्षा दी
और
अग्नि की अग्नि-परीक्षा ली,
शत-प्रतिशत फल की
आशा ही नहीं, पूर्ण विश्वास है,
फिर भी मन को धीरज कहाँ
और...कब?
विपरीत स्वप्न जो दिखा...!
अपनी ओर बढ़ते शिल्पी के चरण देख
कुम्भ की ओर से स्वयं अवा ने कहा :
‘‘हे शिल्पी महोदय!
The eyes in which
Not only the elapsed life of the past
But also the present life, like a dream,
Floats in a hazy manner,
And
All the future, the probable, the suspected -
In toto, everything
Reflects as smoky, hoary
And somewhat cumbersome.
After taking repose from the morning prayers,
The Artisan, on stepping out, views –
The golden sunshine of the morn is seen
Which is sliding
Over the cheeks of the Earth;
Before the early morning since the very dawn
His heart has become impatient,
He has to undertake a survey
Of the Kiln today!
The pitcher passes through the fire-test
And
The fire itself is put to an ordeal,
There is not only some hope, but full confidence
About the cent-per-cent results,
Even then, where does the mind keep up restraint,
And...when ?
The dream visualized is, indeed, out of accord...!
On seeing the steps of the Artisan moving towards it,The kiln itself speaks out on behalf of the pitcher :
“O Mr. Artisan Sir !
