मृत्यु के मुख में मत ढकेलो मुझे!
आगामी आलोक की आशा दे कर
आगत में अन्धकार मत फैलाओ!
अब यह उष्णता सही नहीं जाती,
सहिष्णुता की कमी क्रमशः
इसमें आती जा रही है।
इस जीवन को मत जलाओ
शीतल जल ला पिलाओ इसे!
चाहो इसे जिलाओ, माँ!”
जब धरती-माँ की ओर से
आश्वासन-आशीर्वचन भी नहीं मिले
तब कुम्भ ने कुम्भकार को
स्मरण में ला, कहा-
“क्या त्राण के सब-के-सब धाम
कहीं प्रयाण कर गये ?
कुम्भ के कारक और पालक हो कर
आप भी भूल गये इसे ?
अब ये प्राण
जल-पान बिन
सम्मान नहीं कर पाएँगे किसी का।
यानी,
इनका प्रयाण निश्चित है,
ये अग्नि-परीक्षा नहीं दे सकते अब,
कोई प्रतिज्ञा छोटी-सी भी
मेरु-सी लग रही है इन्हें
आस्था अस्त-व्यस्त-सी हो गई,
भावी जीवन के प्रति उसुकता नहीं-सी रही।
अफसोस है, कि
अब सोच रहा हूँ-
Don't push me into the jaws of death !
By arousing the expectations for the future brightness Don't spread darkness in the present !
Now this heat is beyond forbearance,
The lack of tolerance is
Gradually making its headway into it.
Don't burn off this life
Fetching the cool water, make it drink it !
Re-vitalize it, O Mother !”
When, from the side of the mother Earth,
Even the assurances and blessings aren't bestowed
Then, having remembered the Artisan,
The pitcher said –
“Have all the means of protection
Departed somewhere else ?
Being the doer and fosterer of the pitcher
Have you too have forgotten it ?
Now these life-breaths
Won't be able to honour any one
Without some drinking water.
That is,
Their departure is sure and certain
Now they can no more enter into a fire-test,
Any vow, even an insignificant one,
Is appearing to them as tough as the mount Meru,
The faith has almost been shattered, No trace of curiosity for future life has almost left its mark.
