बाहर...सो भीतर, भीतर...सो बाहर
वपुषा-वचसा-मनसा
एक ही व्यवहार, एक ही बस
बहती यहाँ उपयोग की धार!
और सुनो!
यहाँ बाधक-कारण और ही है,
वह है स्वयं अग्नि।
मैं तो स्वयं जलना चाहती हूँ
परन्तु,
अग्नि मुझे जलाना नहीं चाहती है
इसका कारण वही जाने।”
किन शब्दों में अग्नि से निवेदन करूं,
क्या वह मुझे सुन सकेगी ?
क्या उस पर पड़ सकेगा
इस हृदय का प्रकाश-प्रभाव ?
क्या ज्वलन जल बन सकेगा ?
इसकी प्यास बुझ सकेगी ?
कहीं वह मुझ पर कुपित हुई तो...?
यूँ सोचता हुआ शंकित शिल्पी
एक बार और जलाता है अग्नि।
लो, जलती अग्नि कहने लगी :
‘‘मैं इस बात को मानती हूँ कि
अग्नि-परीक्षा के बिना आज तक
किसी को भी मुक्ति मिली नहीं,
न ही भविष्य में मिलेगी।
जब यह नियम है इस विषय में
फिर !
Do what you say, say what you think,
By deed, word and thought The uniform conduct, the one and the same only- It's here that the current of conscious attentiveness flows !
And listen,
Here the obstructive cause is indeed different,
It is the fire itself.
I do myself want to be burnt off
But,
The fire doesn't wish to set me on fire
The reason thereof is known to it only."
In what words should I entreat the fire,
Shall it give me a hearing ?
Shall the enlightening effect of this heart
Touch and impress it ?
Shall the burning turn itself into water,
Shall its thirst get itself quenched ?
What, if it does frown upon me...?
Pondering thus, the suspicious Artisan
Kindles the fire once again.
Lo, the burning fire adds thus:
“I acknowledge the fact that
None has attained liberation till to-day
Without the ordeal of passing through the fire,
Nor shall it indeed be achieved in future too.
When, in this connection, thus goes the law
