हाय!
अकाल में ही जीवन से
हाथ धोना पड़ेगा क्या ?
दिन-पर-दिन कटते गये
..कई दिन!
जब कारण ज्ञात हुआ शिल्पी के अदर्शन का
प्रेमभरी मन्द-मुस्कान
लाड़-प्यार की बात।
गात पर हाथ सहलाता
कोमल कर-पल्लवों का वह सहलाव
संगीत के साथ आत्मसात् कराता
शीतल सलिल का स्नेहिल सिंचन…
यह सब अतिशय अतीत का,
स्मृति का विषय बन झलक आया
गुलाब-पौध के समक्ष।
और
पौध ने दृष्टिपात किया तुरन्त।
सुदूर...प्रांगण में आसीन शिल्पी की ओर,
जो
भोग-भुक्ति से ऊब गया है,
योग-भक्ति में डूब गया है,
उसकी मति वह
प्रभु-चरणों की दासी बनी है,
पर
मुखाकृति पर पतली हल्की-सी
उदासी बसी है!...सो...
धर्म-संकट में पड़े स्वामी को देख
गुलाब-पौध बोल उठा :
‘‘इस संकट का अन्त निकट हो,
Ah me !
Will the life have to be
Relinquished untimely ?
Day after day passed away
...So many days !
When the reason of the Artisan's absence is known
An affectionate soft smile
Something of fondling and loving.
That tickling of the tender leaf-like palms
Rubbing gently its hand upon the body,
The endearing sprinkling of the cool water...
Conferring assimilation with the music...
All this pre-eminence bestowed by the past,
On becoming a recollection of memory
Reflects before the sapplings of roses.
And
The row of plants at once cast its glance! Towards the Artisan seated in the distant...courtyard,
Who
Has been fed up with the worldly pleasures and luxuries, Has been absorbed into asceticism and devotion, His such understanding
Has become a devotee at the feet of the Lord,
But
There dwells into his facial expressions
A thin and dim sense of dejection !...So...
On seeing his Lord caught into scruples
The rose-plant speaks out :“The
end to this trouble should come within the reach,
