‘‘सल्लेखना, यानी
काय और कषाय को
कृश करना होता है, बेटा!
काया को कृश करने से
कषाय का दम घुटता है,
...घुटना ही चाहिए।
और,
काया को मिटाना नहीं,
मिटती-काया में
मिलती-माया में
म्लान-मुखी और मुदित-मुखी
नहीं होना ही
सही सल्लेखना है, अन्यथा
आत्मा का धन लुटता है, बेटा!
वातानुकूलता हो या न हो।
बातानुकूलता हो या न हो।
सुख या दु:ख के लाभ में भी
भला छुपा हुआ रहता है,
देखने से दिखता है समता की आँखों से,
लाभ शब्द ही स्वयं
विलोम रूप से कह रहा है
ला...भ...भ...ला...!
अन्त-अन्त में
यही कहना है बेटा!
कि
अपने जीवन-काल में
छली मछलियों-सी
छली नहीं बनना
विषयों की लहरों में
भूल कर भी
मत चली बनना।
‘Sallekhanā’, that is,
One has to reduce, dear child !
The body as well as the foul passions,
By weakening the body
The foul passions stop breathing,
...It ought to be so.
And,
Not by making the body perish,
But in the withering away of body
In the gaining of worldly objects
Neither getting saddened
Nor getting gladdened
Is the genuine Sallekhanā’
Supreme Renunciation - otherwise,
The wealth of Soul is plundered, dear child !
Whether air-comfort is at hand or not
Whether regard to discourse is observed or not,
There is found some goodness hidden
Into the gain of pleasure or pain
It can be seen, if desired, through the eyes of equanimity
The word ‘Lābha’ in itself
Is signifying in an inverse manner -
Lā...bha...bha...lā...,
Ultimately,
I have to say only this thing, dear child !
That
You shouldn't be the victim of any fraud
Like the fish
Who were deceived in their life-time,
Even by mistake
You shouldn't be swept away
Into the waves of sensuous pleasures.
