लज्जा की घूंघट में
डूबती-सी कुमुदिनी
प्रभाकर के कर-छुवन से
बचना चाहती है वह;
अपनी पराग को-
सराग-मुद्रा को
पाँखुरियों की ओट देती है।
लो!... इधर...!
अध-खुली कमलिनी
डूबते चाँद की
चाँदनी को भी नहीं देखती
आँखें खोल कर।
ईष्यां पर विजय प्राप्त करना
सबके वश की बात नहीं है,
और….वह भी….
स्त्री-पर्याय में-
अनहोनी-सी... घटना!
अबला बालाएँ सब
तरला ताराएँ अब
छाया की भाँति
अपने पतिदेव
चन्द्रमा के पीछे-पीछे हो
छुपी जा रहीं
कहीं… सुदूर… दिगंत में
दिवाकर उन्हें
देख न ले, इस शंका से।
मन्द-मन्द
सुगन्ध पवन
बह रहा है;
बहना ही जीवन है
The Water-lily as if sinking
Behind the veil of shyness
Wishes to evade
The finger-touch of the Sun;
She tries to give a covering of the petals
To her pollen-
To her emotional countenance.
Lo !... hither...!
The half-blossomed she-lotus
Doesn't look even at the moonbeam
Of the waning moon
With her eye-lids opened.
It's not under everybody's thumb
To conquer envy,
And...that... too...
In the life-cycle of a woman-
An event...almost impossible !
Now the fickle stars
All like frail ladies
While following at heels
Their husband, the Moon
Like shadows,
Are getting themselves hidden
Somewhere... far away...over the horizon…
Due to the apprehension
Lest they be sighted by the Sun.
The fragrant breeze
Is blowing
In a gentle manner;
Life is-to keep going
